Custom Drapery Yardage Estimator
Calculate fabric for custom drapes with lining, various header types, and pattern repeat matching.
How to Use This Drapery Fabric Calculator
I have made quite a few sets of drapes over the years — some that came out beautifully, and a couple that taught me hard lessons about fabric math. The biggest lesson? Always account for everything before you buy. This drapery fabric calculator combines fullness ratio, header type, hem allowance, and pattern repeat into one simple calculation.
Here is the process I follow: measure the window width and desired finished length, choose your fullness ratio (2x is standard), select your header type, and decide if you want lining. The calculator then determines how many fabric widths you need per panel based on your fabric width, adds the header and hem allowances to each panel length, and multiplies everything out.
Drapery Styles and Their Yardage Requirements
| Style | Header | Fullness | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rod pocket | 2" | 2x | Casual, lightweight curtains |
| Pleat tape | 3" | 2-2.5x | Standard drapes, most rooms |
| Pinch pleat | 4" | 2.5x | Formal living rooms, dining rooms |
| Goblet pleat | 6" | 2.5-3x | Theatrical, grand windows |
